1930s child actor Layne Tom, Jr. dies (1927-2015)
Layne Tom, Jr, born in Los Angeles, was a child actor during the 1930s and 40s. You may remember him as Mako in The Hurricane (1937) with Dorothy Lamour and Jon Hall. He also played 3 different Charlie Chan sons in Charlie Chan at the Olympics (1937), Charlie Chan in Honolulu (1938) and Charlie Chan’s Murder Cruise (1940).
He is the father of fitness television host, Kiana Tom. I used to watch Kiana’s popular show, Kiana’s Flex Appeal. Usually I know about Studio era Hollywood actors first but this is a rare occasion where I had first heard of the youngster, Kiana, only born in the 1960s. Through Kiana I learned about her father.
